GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed between the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The peptide binds copper through its histidine imidazole nitrogen, its terminal amino group, and a deprotonated amide nitrogen, creating a stable chelate ring. The resulting complex carries a distinctive blue to blue-violet color, which arises from copper d-d electronic transitions. In the solid state it is usually handled as a powder, while in solution the complex can dissociate and re-form depending on pH and competing ligands. The name copper tripeptide-1 is widely used in ingredient listings.
The tripeptide was first isolated from a human plasma filtrate in 1973 during studies of tissue repair factors. Later work detected the free peptide and its copper complex in saliva, urine, and wound fluid, suggesting a natural role in tissue remodeling. Plasma concentrations reported in early literature decline with age, a pattern often cited in discussions of skin aging. Whether these endogenous levels are directly functional or largely incidental remains an open question. The peptide sequence is conserved across mammalian species.
Material described in research and cosmetic supply chains is typically a synthetic peptide supplied as a lyophilized powder. Purity is commonly reported through chromatographic separation, often at 95 percent or higher, while copper content is confirmed by separate elemental analysis. Batch variation in color and solubility can reflect residual counter-ions, moisture, or partial oxidation of the peptide. Because the complex is not a single regulatory entity, specifications differ between suppliers and are not standardized internationally.
Discovery of GHK is generally attributed to work in the 1970s that isolated a plasma factor influencing liver cell behavior. Subsequent studies identified the copper-binding tripeptide and its ability to chelate copper with high affinity. Early reports linked the complex to wound healing and tissue remodeling in animal models. The free peptide and the copper-bound form have different properties, so the two are distinguished in the literature. Whether endogenous GHK-Cu serves a single primary physiological role remains an open question.
The molecular weight and charge of GHK-Cu depend on the pH and the number of coordinated ligands. At neutral pH, the peptide typically binds one copper ion, but ternary complexes with other biomolecules can form. Spectroscopic methods such as electron paramagnetic resonance and circular dichroism are used to study the coordination environment. Reports on the exact geometry vary because the complex is dynamic in solution. Researchers often use synthetic GHK-Cu rather than extracted material to control stoichiometry and purity.
GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed from the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The peptide binds copper through its histidine imidazole nitrogen, the terminal amino group, and the deprotonated amide nitrogen. This arrangement creates a square-planar or distorted geometry around the metal center, depending on pH and the presence of competing ligands. The complex occurs naturally in human plasma, saliva, and urine at low concentrations, and its sequence is conserved across many vertebrate species.

Identity and purity are usually assessed with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, often paired with mass spectrometry. Copper content is measured separately by techniques such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry or atomic absorption. Amino acid analysis confirms the peptide sequence after hydrolysis. Because the metal and the peptide can be quantified independently, a complete certificate of analysis normally reports both values rather than a single purity figure. This separation of measurements is important when comparing suppliers.
Solid GHK-Cu appears as a blue to blue-violet powder, and the colour is a direct consequence of copper coordination. The complex dissolves readily in water and in many polar solvents, while the free peptide behaves differently. Solubility in nonpolar media is low, which limits its use in oil-based systems. Solutions are typically prepared fresh because the dissolved form is more exposed to hydrolysis and to loss of the metal ion than the dry powder. Working concentrations are usually low, and preparation notes often specify the solvent and the order of addition.
Dry material is typically held at low temperature, often around minus twenty degrees Celsius, and protected from moisture and light. Copper complexes can release their metal ion under acidic conditions or in the presence of competing chelators. Hydrolysis of the peptide backbone is a slower but real pathway, and the histidine residue is susceptible to oxidation over long periods. Stability statements therefore depend on formulation, pH, and container, and they should be read as conditional rather than absolute.
Analytical verification commonly relies on high-performance liquid chromatography for purity assessment and mass spectrometry for identity confirmation. Spectroscopic methods such as UV-visible absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance can probe the metal centre itself, since the d9 configuration of copper(II) produces characteristic signals. Elemental analysis or plasma-based techniques quantify copper content. Because each method reports a different aspect of the same sample, purity figures are most meaningful when the technique and its detection wavelength are stated alongside the value.
Stability of the complex in solution depends on pH, temperature, and the presence of competing ligands. It is generally described as more resistant to breakdown than the metal-free chain, since coordination reduces susceptibility to enzymatic attack. Oxidation and hydrolysis can nevertheless proceed over time in aqueous media. Storage guidance in laboratory settings commonly involves refrigeration, protection from light, and avoidance of strongly alkaline conditions. Published data on long-term behaviour vary considerably and depend on the specific matrix.
The new 10th district stretches from downtown and western Austin (including Lake Travis) through the Bryan–College Station area to a rural stretch of east-central Texas between Houston, Dallas and Tyler, including Crockett, Livingston and Madisonville. The district was redrawn during Texas's 2025 mid-decade congressional redistricting. Chris Gober, who subsequently became the Republican nominee for the district, had participated professionally in Republican congressional redistricting efforts. During the 2021 Texas redistricting process, 22 Republican members of the Texas Legislature retained Gober, who in turn retained the National Republican Redistricting Trust and obtained the services of Republican mapmaker Adam Kincaid. According to Gober's deposition, Kincaid operated the map-drawing software used for the congressional maps. He subsequently redrew the 10th Congressional district to include his own residence and those of his client, Elon Musk, as well as the land Musk had already identified for his Terafab Project. Through his co-founded nationwide law firm Lex Politica (formerly known as The Gober Group) Gober has represented numerous elected Republican officials in federal ethics investigations. Since 2024, he has served as the director and chief lawyer of entrepreneur Elon Musk's America PAC, including in support of then-nominee Donald Trump's presidential campaign. He defended the PAC against several lawsuits filed by state and city governments regarding its $1 million lottery for voters in swing states.
Organs, structured collections of cells with a specific function, mostly sit within the body, with the exception of skin. Examples include the heart, lungs and liver. Many organs reside within cavities within the body. These cavities include the abdomen (which contains the stomach, for example) and pleura, which contains the lungs.

== Reconstitution of the tablets == The cuneiform tablets confirming Amat-Mamu's inheritance were stored in the home of her uncle, Ikun-pī-Sîn. They were kept separate from the family archive so as not to suggest that the inheritance was part of the family estate. It is unknown why they were kept in her uncle's house, though such storage arrangements with family members were not uncommon. When they were lost, her father Sîn-ilî had a deposition taken from the uncle admitting to their loss. Amat-Mamu was forced to go to the court so the judges could authorize the creation of new tablets. The tablets that Belessunu received as a girl during her own adoption were not reconstituted, for her and her witnesses to that contract had already died. The court also ruled that should the previous tablets be found, they were still the sole property of Amat-Mamu. The sequence of events describing both the legal dispute and the tablets' loss was documented on the reconstituted tablet. The reconstitution meant that some details were lost and inconsistencies were introduced, primarily in the description of the fields. The tablet is dated to the 14th year of Samsu-iluna's rule, placing its creation around 1736 BC. It has been preserved and is designated by archeologists as CT 47.63. Amat-Mamu's story is listed on the tablet alongside that of Belessunu, including Belessunu's dedication as a nadītu and her adoption by her aunt. The tablet is used in the modern era as a reference to understand Babylonian property and inheritance law.

=== Disease association === Genetic activation of NRF2 has been implicated in the development of de novo tumors, as well as in the progression of atherosclerosis by increasing plasma cholesterol levels and hepatic cholesterol content. It has been suggested that these pro-atherogenic effects may outweigh the protective benefits of NRF2-mediated antioxidant induction.
The peptidyl transferase center (EC 2.3.2.12, PTC) is an aminoacyltransferase ribozyme (RNA enzyme) located in the large subunit of the ribosome. It forms peptide bonds between adjacent amino acids during the translation process of protein biosynthesis. Peptidyl transferase activity is not mediated by any ribosomal proteins, but entirely by ribosomal RNA (rRNA). The catalytic activity of the PTC is a significant piece of evidence supporting the RNA World hypothesis. The PTC is a highly conserved region with a very slow rate of mutation. It is considered to be among the most ancient elements of the ribosome, predating the last universal common ancestor. The position of the PTC is analogous in all ribosomes (domain V in 23S numbering), being a part of the large subunit ribosomal RNA with the name only varying due to the different size in Svedberg. It acts as a ribozyme at the lower tips (acceptor ends) of the A- and P- site tRNAs. The different names include:
Like Canada hemlock, this tree suffers severely from the hemlock woolly adelgid. Several species of pines characteristic of the Appalachians are eastern white pine (Pinus strobus ), Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana), pitch pine (Pinus rigida ), Table Mountain pine (Pinus pungens) and shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata). Red pine (Pinus resinosa) is a boreal species that forms a few high elevation outliers as far south as West Virginia. All of these species except white pine tend to occupy sandy, rocky, poor soil sites, which are mostly acidic in character. White pine, a large species valued for its timber, tends to do best in rich, moist soil, either acidic or alkaline in character. Pitch pine is also at home in acidic, boggy soil, and Table Mountain pine may occasionally be found in this habitat as well. Shortleaf pine is generally found in warmer habitats and at lower elevations than the other species. All the species listed do best in open or lightly shaded habitats, although white pine also thrives in shady coves, valleys, and on floodplains. The Appalachians are characterized by a wealth of large, beautiful deciduous broadleaf (hardwood) trees. Their occurrences are best summarized and described in E. Lucy Braun's 1950 classic, Deciduous Forests of Eastern North America (Macmillan, New York).
=== Food product design === Food designers use water activity to formulate shelf-stable food. If a product is kept below a certain water activity, then mold growth is inhibited. This results in a longer shelf life. Water activity values can also help limit moisture migration within a food product made with different ingredients. If raisins of a higher water activity are packaged with bran flakes of a lower water activity, the water from the raisins migrates to the bran flakes over time, making the raisins hard and the bran flakes soggy. Food formulators use water activity to predict how much moisture migration affects their product.
=== 2000–present === In September 2002, Lilly partnered with Amylin Pharmaceuticals to develop and commercialize Amylin's new drug based on exendin-4, a novel substance isolated from the venom of the Gila monster. Exenatide, the first of the GLP-1 receptor agonists, was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in April 2005. In 2003, Lilly introduced Cialis (tadalafil), a competitor to Viagra for erectile dysfunction developed in a partnership with Icos. Cialis maintains an active period of 36 hours, causing it sometimes to be dubbed the "weekend pill". It was advertised during the 2004 Super Bowl XXXVIII and 2005 Super Bowl XXXIX halftime shows. In 2004, Lilly introduced duloxetine (Cymbalta), a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor used predominantly in the treatment of major depressive disorders and generalized anxiety disorder. It ranks with Prozac as one of the most financially successful pharmaceuticals in industry history. It is also used in the treatment of fibromyalgia, neuropathy, chronic pain and osteoarthritis. In January 2007, Lilly acquired Icos for $2.1 billion, after raising its offer and facing opposition from Institutional Shareholder Services. Lilly subsequently closed Icos' manufacturing operations, terminated nearly 500 Icos employees, leaving 127 employees working at the biologics facility. In December 2007, CMC Biopharmaceuticals A/S (CMC), a Copenhagen-based provider of contract biomanufacturing services, bought the Bothell, Washington-based biologics facility from Lilly and retained the existing 127 employees.

This is a list of investigational hair loss drugs, or drugs that are currently under development for clinical use in the treatment of different forms of alopecia (hair loss), such as androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) and alopecia areata (spot baldness), but are not yet approved. Chemical/generic names are listed first, with developmental code names, synonyms, and brand names in parentheses. The format of list items is "Name (Synonyms) – Route – Indication – Mechanism of Action [Reference]". This list was last comprehensively updated in July 2025. It is likely to become outdated with time.
Body hair characteristics such as thickness and length vary across human populations, some people have less pronounced body hair and others have more conspicuous body hair characteristics. Each culture of human society developed social norms relating to the presence or absence of body hair, which has changed from one time to another. Different standards of human physical appearance and physical attractiveness can apply to women and men. People whose hair falls outside a culture's aesthetic body image standards may experience real or perceived social acceptance problems, psychological distress and social pressure. For example, for women in several societies, exposure in public of body hair other than head hair, eyelashes and eyebrows is generally considered to be unaesthetic, unattractive and embarrassing. With the increased popularity in many countries of women wearing fashion clothing, sportswear and swimsuits during the 20th century and the consequential exposure of parts of the body on which hair is commonly found, there has emerged a popularization for women to remove visible body hair, such as on legs, underarms and elsewhere, or the consequences of hirsutism and hypertrichosis. In most of the Western world, for example, the vast majority of women regularly shave their legs and armpits, while roughly half also shave hair that may become exposed around their bikini pelvic area (often termed the "bikini line").
nebeprisikiškiakopūstlapiaujančiuosiuose – "in those, of masculine gender, who aren't gathering enough wood sorrel's leaves by themselves anymore." – the plural locative case of past iterative active participle of verb kiškiakopūstlapiauti meaning "to pick wood-sorrels' leaves" (leaves of edible forest plant with sour taste, word by word translation "rabbit cabbage"). The word is attributed to software developer / writer Andrius Stašauskas.
==== Humans ==== Gene therapy uses genetically modified viruses to deliver genes which can cure disease in humans. Although gene therapy is still relatively new, it has had some successes. It has been used to treat genetic disorders such as severe combined immunodeficiency, and Leber's congenital amaurosis. Treatments are also being developed for a range of other currently incurable diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and muscular dystrophy. These treatments only effect somatic cells, meaning any changes would not be inheritable. Germline gene therapy results in any change being inheritable, which has raised concerns within the scientific community. In 2015, CRISPR was used to edit the DNA of non-viable human embryos. In November 2018, He Jiankui announced that he had edited the genomes of two human embryos, in an attempt to disable the CCR5 gene, which codes for a receptor that HIV uses to enter cells. He said that twin girls, Lulu and Nana, had been born a few weeks earlier and that they carried functional copies of CCR5 along with disabled CCR5 (mosaicism) and were still vulnerable to HIV. The work was widely condemned as unethical, dangerous, and premature.
Besides modulating electroosmotic flow, capillary wall coatings can also serve the purpose of reducing interactions between "sticky" analytes (such as proteins) and the capillary wall. Such wall-analyte interactions, if severe, manifest as reduced peak efficiency, asymmetric (tailing) peaks, or even complete loss of analyte to the capillary wall.

It is a complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine with a copper(II) ion. The peptide coordinates the metal through its histidine, amino terminus, and an amide nitrogen. It is often listed simply as copper tripeptide-1.
The peptide and its copper form have been detected in human plasma, saliva, and urine. Early reports describe levels that fall with age. The functional meaning of these pools is still debated.
Chromatographic separation gives peptide purity, often reported as a percentage. Copper content is checked by a separate elemental method. Moisture and counter-ions may be reported as well.
